Policy Planning Services
The Council has created and is still creating policies and plans in pursuits of its mandate.
- Formulating and coordinating the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP 2023–2033) for long-term fiscal stability.
- Granting zero-duty and low tariff concessions on Semi-Knocked-Down (SKD) and Completely-Knocked-Down (CKD) automotive component kits.
Auto Industry Research & Dev
The Council supports research work aimed at advancing the frontiers of technological development in the sub-sector.
- Design and prototyping of electric vehicle (EV) platforms and commercial transit buses suited for Nigerian road terrain.
- Development of 100% off-grid solar-powered high-speed EV charging stations in Nigerian universities (UNILAG, UNN, UDUS) and council headquarters.
Industrial Infrastructure
The Council has a mandate to promote technical skills and infrastructure development in the automotive sector in the country.
- Establishment of 6 Geopolitical Zonal Mechatronics Training Centers equipped with computer-aided diagnostic machinery.
- Nationwide Mechatronics Train-the-Trainer programmes upgrading traditional auto-mechanics to modern computerized automotive electronic technicians.
Local Automotive Components
Local Automotive Components / Parts Development Fund: A major factor that has militated against the development of the sub-sector.
- Establishing dedicated financing mechanisms and low-interest credit lines for indigenous spare parts and component manufacturers.
- Promoting local backward integration for brake pads, tires, automotive glass, exhaust systems, rubber seals, leaf springs, and plastic injection moldings.
Automotive Testing & Standards
The Council is setting up three (3) test Centres located at Enugu, Lagos and Zaria with various objectives.
- Automotive Components Test Centre, Enugu: Testing auto parts, suspension systems, shock absorbers, automotive glass, and rubber compliance.
- Automotive Emission Test Centre, Lagos: Testing vehicles for compliance to global exhaust emission standards (Euro IV / Euro V) using computerized chassis dynamometers.
Public Relations
Workshops: Organize workshops on strategies to combat challenges in the Nigerian Automotive Industry.
- Organizing national automotive summits, stakeholder roundtables, and industrial exhibitions to promote investment in local assembly.
- Engaging government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to enforce mandatory local procurement of Made-in-Nigeria vehicles.
